In
June 1999 the Atlas Copco Band was invited to take part in the
tercentennial celebrations of Neu lsenburg, Hemel Hempstead’s twin
town in Germany. The band travelled by plane on Friday 4th June,
the instruments were transported in the band’s van driven by Peter
Davis accompanied by Trevor Tucker. On Saturday, after a conducted
tour of Frankfurt, the band was given a civic reception and lunch
in the Town Hall where the members were welcomed by the Mayor of
Neu lsenburg. During the afternoon a two hour concert was given in
a pedestrian precinct of the town. |

The following day the Children’s County
Sports were held in the Sports Park and the band played for three
sessions during the morning. The picture on the right is taken
from the local newspaper and shows Trevor Tucker playing the
trombone solo 'Leaning on a Lamp-post' just seconds before
receiving a soaking. The lady with the umbrella held it just a
little to high, pushing the roof of the marquee up just enough to
insure the release of the mornings rainfall right on to the head
of the soloist! The band members and their guests were most
appreciative of the warm welcome and generous hospitality shown to
them during their stay. After a very successful week-end the band
returned home on Sunday evening. |
